The new extension of Kuykendahl Road is now open in The Woodlands, Tx.
The extension officially opened Thursday, March 22 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and serves as an entrance to the Village of Creekside Park.
Alex Sutton, president of The Woodlands Development Company, stated, “The Kuykendahl Road extension uniquely defines and serves the Village of Creekside Park and the future Creekside Park Village Center. The roadway provides direct access to the upcoming Village Center, Timber Creek Elementary School, which will open in the fall of 2012, and Fire Station 7.”
The development company did the project in conjunction with Harris County Precinct 4 and The Woodlands Road Utility District, according to Daniel E. Kolkhorst, vice president, engineering and construction with the development company.
The bifurcation of the road, meaning north and south bound lanes are separated by an estimated 450 feet, starts at Kuykendahl Road and Creekside Green Drive on the south side and extends to north of Creekside Forest Drive and The Woodlands Fire Department Station 7.
The total cost of the road project was $5.7 million.
The extension is approximately 1.7 miles and aims to help with growth and development congestion.
Angel Brothers served as the contractor on the project, while Pate Engineers served as the enginee.
Kolkhorst stated, “Approximately 15,000 vehicles per day use Kuykendahl Road, and the area is growing at a rate of 3 percent per year. The extension and enhancement of Kuykendahl Road was highly anticipated.”
