Shining a light on a specific volunteer from a local nonprofit agency is the goal of the Women of Distinction luncheon.

Each nonprofit agency votes on one volunteer they feel has gone above and beyond the call of duty for their agency.

The majority of candidates are selected based on their volunteerism and service to the community.

In order to participate in this event one must be a member of the Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations with dues of $25 for the year.

The benefit to belonging to MCWCO is being able to participate in the Women of Distinction event, but to meet regularly with various other nonprofits to update one another on range of services and core competencies as well.

Robinson added, "We find that many agencies have either updated their services or extended the range or hour of service so it always proves helpful to meet face to face to talk about issues, concerns, and basic resource set of each agency."

This month, Stream Data Centers is scheduled to break ground on the Houston Private Data Center, a single story, 72,500 square foot building that is designed to withstand winds up to 146 mph.

According to Stream Data Centers, the logic behind choosing The Woodlands is that the master-planned community is not near any industrial areas, rail lines or flight paths, and has access to power and fiber infrastructures.

Gil Staley, CEO of the Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership, stated a data center is scheduled to not bring several full-time jobs, but it should benefit residents and government entities through the taxes Stream will pay.

Staley added, “Data centers are very infrastructure-intensive, so they’re not really a job creator. But it takes a lot of capital to build one.”

Another business using the data center could help to raise the profile of The Woodlands that much more, and could even entice others to build data centers here, according to Staley.

He stated, “We all benefit from this, even down to the residents, because it’s adding value to the tax base. This helps keep residents’ taxes low because they’re being subsidized by a business paying taxes.”

The building is scheduled to be ready to use in December.

Stream Data Centers will be located in The Woodlands by beautiful subdivisions like Grogan’s Forest and Grogan’s Mill.
